Stoma Care Support Meeting 2025

Overview

A meeting of the Stoma Care Support Group was successfully convened to address the needs and challenges faced by ostomates (individuals living with a stoma). The session fostered community support, shared practical knowledge, and reinforced institutional commitments to ostomate welfare.

Key Proceedings

1.  **Opening & Introductions:**

    Smt. Geethakumari B.S., Enterostomal Therapist, delivered the introductory remarks. This was followed by a session where ostomates shared personal experiences and challenges, fostering a supportive environment.

2.  **Inauguration & Addresses:**

    The event was formally inaugurated by Smt. Manju Pillai, Cine Actress. Dr. Chandra Mohan delivered the welcome address, and Dr. R.C. Sreekumar (President, ASI Trivandrum City Chapter) gave the presidential address. Felicitation addresses were presented by Sri. Abey George (Swasthi Foundation), Dr. Madhu Muralee (KASO), and Smt. Ambili Jacob (Swasthi Foundation).

3.  **Support & Recognition:**

    The Swasthi Foundation sponsored and distributed gifts to all attending ostomates. Both the Swasthi Foundation and the Trivandrum Medical College Alumni Association (TMCAA) publicly affirmed their continued support for the group’s activities.

4.  **Motivational & Educational Sessions:**

    *   Sri. Haneefa, a cancer survivor, delivered an inspiring motivational talk sharing his personal journey.

    *   A discussion on the issues faced by ostomates was led by Dr. Chandra Mohan, Dr. Madhu Muralee, and Smt. Geethakumari B.S.

    *   Dr. Ansar P.P. (Gokulam Medical College) facilitated a motivational session encouraging ostomates to process their emotions following a cancer diagnosis.

    *   Smt. Geethakumari B.S. presented an educational session titled “Tips and Tricks of Stoma Care,” providing valuable practical guidance.

5.  **Interactive Engagement:**

    Ostomates actively participated in discussions and a question-and-answer session, contributing to a dynamic exchange of information and peer support.

### Conclusion

The meeting concluded successfully, having provided a platform for ostomates to connect, receive practical education and emotional motivation, and witness tangible commitments of ongoing support from partner organizations. Attendees participated in lunch following the formal proceedings.
