In connection with its 3 rd annual meeting, Kerala Association of Surgical Oncologists (KASO) in
collaboration with Malabar Cancer Center (MCC), Thalassery, organized a national CME on colorectal
cancers on 09/07/2017. The one day CME titled ‘Update on colorectal cancers’ was arranged in the
academic seminar hall of MCC.
The program was attended by eminent faculty from various apex cancer centers in India and delegates
from various parts of South India. Dr Ayyappan S, Dr Vikash Mahajan, Dr vandana Mahajan (Apollo
Specialty Hospital, Chennai), Dr Ashwin Desouza, Dr Vikas Ostwal (Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai), Dr
Iqbal Ahmed (MVR Cancer Center), Dr Chandramohan K, Dr Paul Augustine (RCC), Dr Srikumar Pillai
(Jubilee Mission Hospital, Thrissur), Dr Satheesan B and Dr Geetha M (MCC) were prominent among the
faculty who contributed to the scientific content of the program.
Major practical aspects of the management of colorectal cancers and latest advancements were covered
in lectures and were discussed in the panel. Active participation of the delegates helped to focus on
major practical issues related to surgical management as well as adjuvant treatment.
KASO general body meeting was conducted alongside the CME. The organisisng secretary, Dr
Nizamudheen M P welcomed the delegates. Dr Chandramohan, the general secretary of KASO read out
the annual report of the previous year. Dr Iqbal Ahmed, the President of KASO delivered presidential
address. Dr Satheesan B, director of MCC also addressed the delegates. Various measures on
popularizing KASO among the practicing oncologists were discussed. Plans for future academic activities
under the banner of KASO at various parts of Kerala were formulated. Dr sajith Babu, the organizing
chairman of the program delivered vote of thanks.
